A motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital over the weekend after he crashed on Salt Creek Road.

The driver, Scott R. Shanks, 58, Westfield, told police he lost control of his motorcycle after dropping a wheel off the pavement, an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Eggebrecht states. Shanks said he thought he saw a southbound vehicle in his lane, the report said.

Shanks and another rider were northbound on Salt Creek Road when the crash occurred.

The other rider told police Shanks that overcorrected in an attempt to bring the bike back on the road, but he was thrown from the bike once it was back on the road.

Shanks told Eggebrecht he landed on his left side in the middle of the road and that he believed he had broken his collarbone, the report states.

Shanks was taken by EMS to Columbus Regional Hospital. He was wearing a helmet. His bike was towed.
