No. 2 doubles: Nolan Patterson/Noah Coachran (BC) d. Tristen Seacat/Jacob Willoughby (CC) 6-1, 6-3

Coach’s comments: The Eagles completed their home part of the schedule with a pair of loses to Southwestern and Corydon Central. The Eagles had more that their opponent to deal with, as temperatures on the court reached above 90 degrees. I hope we saw a glimpse of the future with Noah and Nolan getting a pair of wins. Aaron came back from a first match defeat and won easily in his second match. The seniors had great match but couldn’t capitalize on their opponents’ mistakes. Spencer got another match and made some improvements. Next match is Tuesday against White River Valley at Edgewood, 5:30 p.m.

Coach’s comments: The Eagles finished the regular season on a high note with a 3-2 victory over the Wolverines of White River Valley. The deciding point came with a No. 2 doubles victory by Noah and Nolan with the score tied at 2-2. Abel and Elijah did what seniors wanted and should do when the score is tight and they drop a set. I was pleased for them to get a victory in their last regular season match. Aaron also had another good match. It has been a season full of accomplishments and challenges. We have grown not only through our wins, but also our losses. The Eagles will continue work hard over the off-season to improve upon the eighth-place finish in the conference.

No. 2 doubles: Nolan Patterson/Noah Cochran (BC) d. Jalen Pleak/Aaron Hunter (CE) 6-0, 6-1

Coach’s comments: The Eagles defeated the Columbus East Olympians to avenge a 2-3 early season loss. The Eagles got victories from Chase Watson at No. 1 singles and both doubles teams of Abe Oliver and Elijah Roush (No. 1) and Nolan Patterson and Noah Cochran (No. 2). It was really nice to see the Eagles play a very solid match tonight and will play for a sectional championship tomorrow night versus No. 24 Columbus North Bulldogs. It will be a tough task for the young Eagles, but I feel that they will represent themselves, their school, and the game of tennis to best of their abilities.

Brown Co.: 4-18 (8th WIC East)

Sept. 29

Sectional championship

Brown County 0, Columbus North 5

Coach’s comments: The young Eagles were beaten 5-0 by the bulldogs of Columbus North. The Eagles played a very solid match but were beaten by a much better team. We had to say good bye to our seniors, Abe Oliver and Elijah Roush. They finished their career with their heads held high and with a positive attitude. Their leadership will be missed, but they have laid a foundation and expectations that this team will be improved in the future. This team of young players are in good hands and have gained a lot of match experience. This team has already talked about how to get better for next year. As a coach, it makes me very proud to have been the leader of this team. Our win-loss record was not as high as we wanted, but we as a team have grown and improved as the season progressed and that is really how you measure the success of a season. I am really excited to see where they go in then next couple of years. They know that hard work is one of the key ingredients to get back to the WIC finals.

Brown Co.: 4-19 (8th WIC East), sectional runner-up
