Senior night at the Brown County High School girls soccer match turned out to be quite an achievement for many of the team’s seniors, when the Eagles defeated the Greenwood Christian Cougars during their final regular-season match 4-1.

Although Greenwood Christian scored the first goal, the Eagles did not let that sway them from doing their job on their home field. The Eagles on the sidelines continually cheered for their teammates, and in minute 15, senior Leah Tucker scored the team’s first goal off an assist by senior Jasmine Imming.

Then, with three minutes and 10 seconds left on the clock, senior Emma Quackenbush scored the team’s second goal, using another assist from Imming.

The Eagles and the Cougars went into the break 2-1.

The Eagles came out strong in the second half, with an early assist by Imming to Tucker for goal No. 3. With 38 minutes remaining in the game, the Cougars were unable to recover against the Eagle defense for the remainder of the match.

In the final minutes, Imming scored her own unassisted goal to bring the Eagles to a three-goal lead.

Overall, the Eagle goalkeepers had four saves in the game. Senior Skylar Fleischman left the field with three saves, while sophomore Hannah Hummel had one.

Coach David Phelps was ecstatic with the team’s win, calling it possibly the best game they had played all season. He said the amount of shots the girls took in this game — over 20 — is exactly what he wants to see.

“Technically, this was the best game we have played all year. It was just such a good overall effort, and each player got some playing time. If we start playing our best soccer now, it’s a good sign.”

The Eagles drew a bye for the first-round sectional game and fell 1-3 to Edgewood in the second round on Oct. 5.
