Register for forest marathon by Oct. 26

YELLOWWOOD — The Tecumseh Trail Marathon will take place over a challenging, 26.2-mile course in Morgan-Monroe and Yellowwood state forests Saturday, Oct. 28.

A less grueling 5.5-mile fun run/walk around Yellowwood Lake also is available.

The marathon starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28; the fun run/walk starts at 11 a.m. Online registration closes at 6 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26.

Participants can run or walk but must maintain a 17-minute-per-mile average through the hilly terrain. Those reaching the north trailhead at Yellowwood Lake (about Mile 23) after 4:30 p.m. will be escorted off the route to the shelter. The field is limited to 700 runners. Dogs are not permitted on the course.

Participants will be shuttled by bus from the Yellowwood Lake campground shelter to the starting line near the Morgan-Monroe State Forest office.

Proceeds go toward maintenance and repair of state forest trails.

October yoga session offered

Prop-oriented Yin/restorative yoga will be taught at Simply Fitness in October.

Taught by Annie Buechlein, the session is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 at 59 E. Main St. The cost is $18 per 90-minute session.

Workshop on goals set for Oct. 27

Simply Fitness yoga teacher Becky Mann will help participants to “set intentions, create visions and begin the journey to goals” during a vision board workshop.

It will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 at Simply Fitness, 59 E. Main St., second floor. A $25 fee includes supplies.

Register for Cabin Fever 5K

The Brown County Parks & Recreation Cabin Fever 5K run/walk will start at noon Saturday, Nov. 4 at Brown County High School.

Registration on the day of the race costs $25. It’ll be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the high school.

The race is divided by age groups: 13 and younger, 14 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69 and 70-plus. Awards will be given to all first- and second-place participants in each division.

Hilly Half runs return for second year next month

The second annual Brown County Hilly Half will take runners on a route through Brown County State Park on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The road run will go past the fire tower and other vistas, and down to a Quaff ON! beer mile at the end of the race. Awards and a post-race pizza party will follow.

The Hilly Half also includes 5K, 10K and half-marathon race options.

A free kids’ run will take place Thursday night, Nov. 9, at the Brown County High School track in Nashville. Check-in starts at 5:45 p.m. All preschool, elementary and intermediate school students are welcome to participate.

Hilly Half events raise money to support the Brown County YMCA and its programs.

Free, local running club open to all levels

Brown County Runners, a club open to all paces, plans free weekly runs on trails and roads in and around Brown County.

The club runs most Wednesdays at 6 p.m., usually in Brown County State Park and often does a Saturday or Sunday morning run at one of the parks or forests.

Exercise, yoga, personal training offered weekly

Simply Fitness, 59 E. Main St., is offering yoga, personal training and high-intensity interval training exercise sessions weekly.

Thirty-minute high-intensity interval training “boot camp” sessions are offered at 7 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, or at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays only. The cost is $10 per session.

Beginner yoga is offered at 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays; or at 4:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The cost is $5 per 30-minute session.

Intermediate yoga is taught at 6 p.m. Tuesdays for $10 per 45-minute session.

Private yoga and personal training rates are $15 for each 30-minute session.

New sports injury walk-in clinic open

COLUMBUS — Athletes who suffer an injury during their season can visit a new Saturday Morning Sports Injury Clinic at Southern Indiana Orthopedics’ Walk-In Clinic, 940 N. Marr Road, Suite C. It is now open from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays. Walk-ins are welcome; no appointment is necessary.

Kyokushin karate training offered

Sensei David Michaelis is offering training in traditional kyokushin karate.

Classes are for students 16 and older twice a week, at 6 p.m. Thursdays and 4 p.m. Sundays.

Michaelis has trained and taught kyokushin karate for more than 35 years. Kyokushin, Japanese for “the society of the ultimate truth,” is a style of stand-up, full-contact karate. It is intended to foster humility, perseverance and nonviolence and to provide a foundation for improving physical and mental discipline.

Disc golf league plays every Tuesday

The Brown County Disc Golf Alliance plays regularly in Brown County and new members are welcome.

The group plays Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at Deer Run Park or at the Brown County Country Club, alternating months. In October, it’s the park.

Players of all skill levels are welcome, including those who have never played before. Loaner discs are available.

Open gym times offered at YMCA

The Brown County YMCA offers open gym for basketball, volleyball and pickleball for players 16 and older of all ability levels, with informal, friendly games.

Basketball is offered from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for junior and senior high school students; 5 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays for all ages; and 7:30 to 10 p.m. Mondays for players 18 and older.

Volleyball is offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

Pickleball is 6 to 8 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, 7 to 9 a.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The rock wall is open from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays for all ages.

Open gym hours are free for Y members and $3 per non-member.
