Man arrested for choking woman

VAN BUREN TWP. — A Nashville man was arrested on domestic battery charges after police responded to a home on State Road 135 South the night of Oct. 6.

When police arrived, the woman told Sgt. Bill Southerland that she wanted to drive to a gas station to buy cigarettes, but that Aaron Badgett, 37, would not give her the car keys, a probable cause affidavit states.

The woman told the officer that she got angry and kicked the side of the car. Badgett heard her and came from the back of the house, grabbed her by the neck and choked her while pushing her into the car, the affidavit states.

Southerland reported seeing redness on Badgett’s neck, the affidavit said.

A child in the home told Southerland he heard a loud thump and looked out the window to see Badgett grab the victim in the chest/neck area and push her against the car. She went into the child’s room and locked the door until police arrived.

Badgett said he did not grab or push the woman. He said he got between her and the car to keep her from damaging it, the affidavit states.

Badgett was arrested. On Oct. 16 he was charged with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
