A Fishers man was killed and a child was flown to a hospital Saturday morning after an off-road vehicle crash in Brown County.

Joseph Fenton, 38, was driving a 2015 Yamaha Grizzly 500 east in the 3000 block of Marlett Road at around 10:30 a.m. Oct. 28 when he veered off the gravel road, according to Indiana conservation officers who investigated the crash.

The vehicle flipped several times and landed on its side, ejecting Fenton and his passenger, a young boy. They were found by a family member, conservation officers said.

Fenton died at the scene. The boy was flown by medical helicopter to Riley Hospital for Children with a laceration to his head.

Neither Fenton nor the boy was wearing any safety equipment, conservation officers said. It became state law in July that all children riding on off-road vehicles must wear a helmet.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, officers said.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Department, Nashville Police Department and Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
