JACKSON TWP. — A Bloomington man faces impaired driving charges in Brown County after he crashed into another vehicle head-on in August, injuring another driver.

Jacob C. Long, 28, was arrested Aug. 21 after Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Stargell reported smelling alcohol on him and seeing other signs of impairment.

Police and emergency personnel responded to the 3000 block of State Road 45 near Indian Hill Road at about 5:45 p.m. for the crash.

Long refused to take a breath test or field sobriety tests and resisted police as they tried to detain him for a search warrant, according to the accident report.

Long had told police he was going home to Bloomington, and the unfamiliarity of the road and curve caused him to slide and cross the center line.

He struck a vehicle driven by Kelli M. Snider, 47, of Stinson Road, head-on. She told police she was driving toward Helmsburg when Long’s vehicle came around the curve on her side of the road and struck her.

The day after the accident, Snider told police she had a fractured middle finger that will require surgery, bruising from the seat belt and bruising on both of her lower legs, the police report said.

A search warrant was granted, and Long was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for a blood draw. The results of that test were still pending as of press time.

While inventorying Long’s vehicle, police discovered a glass smoking pipe, a grinder and a baggie with marijuana inside, the police report said.

Long was arrested on initial charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement.

Both vehicles were towed. Long and Snider were wearing seat belts.

On Oct. 17, Long was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated — endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor.
