Woman injured in slide-off on 46 West

A Columbus woman was trapped in her vehicle after sliding off State Road 46 West and hitting a tree Oct. 23.

Melissa M. Hafford, 34, was immediately taken to a hospital with “incapacitating” internal and back injuries, according to a report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Bowling. Bowling was unable to interview her at the scene.

The crash happened in the 1600 block of State Road 46 West at about 6 p.m., when the pavement was wet, the report said.

Bowling noted that Hafford’s Chrysler van struck a tree at a point about six feet off the ground. The van also had a temporary tire on it, he said.
