Thanksgiving is a special time of the year. Most of the fall chores are finished and the grass has been cut, hopefully for the last time until spring. The turnips might still be in the ground but should be gathered in soon.
Santa will be here for the town Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, on the grounds of the Brown County History Center at 90 E. Gould St. in Nashville. Everyone is invited to attend.
Santa Claus will be in the Gnaw Bone Cabin Room inside the History Center on Saturday, Nov. 25. Santa will return from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 2 and Dec. 9. He will talk to the children, and better yet, the children can tell Santa what they are hoping to get for Christmas.
The Pioneer Women will host children at a Stuff-A-Stocking event in the History Center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2. A project of the Brown County Community Foundation, children will buy a ticket to follow a map to more than 50 local merchants to gather treats, ornaments, toys and more to stuff their Christmas stockings.
The annual Christmas party will take place in the Grand Hall of the History Center on Monday, Dec. 4. Dinner, catered by Kevin Ault, will begin at 6:30 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by the Sounds of Indiana, an award-winning men’s barbershop chorus based in Bloomington. During the business portion of the evening, the Abe Martin Award will be awarded to a historical society member who has made an extraordinary contribution to the society during the year.
There are lots of interesting exhibits in the History Center to enjoy all through the holidays. Bring the family and enjoy seeing what’s going on at the History Center.
The History Center is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The Archives are open from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays.
