Ben and Wanda (Sartin) Smith of Nashville celebrated 60 years of marriage Friday, Nov. 10.

They were married in 1957 in Whitwell, Tennessee, by the bride’s grandfather.

Ben is a four-year Navy veteran and a four-and-a-half-year Air Force veteran. Although Ben and Wanda were friends as children, they only began dating when Ben was on leave from the Navy.

The couple moved to Nashville in August 1963, thanks to the Ralph Wootton family.

Ben retired in February 1998 after 35 years with Golden Operations in Columbus. Wanda is a homemaker who has not yet retired.

Their children are Cindy and Chuck Smith of Nashville, Denise Harter of Jeffersonville and the late Ben Smith Jr. Grandchildren are Eric Smith of Nashville, and Spencer Smith and Rosemary Lester-Smith of Evanston, Illinois.
