The Brown County Pioneer Women’s Club had their annual quilt show Sept. 22, 23 and 24 at the Brown County History Center.

Many out-of-state visitors joined with those from Indiana to view more than 100 quilts and to watch club members demonstrate pioneer skills including weaving, spinning, knitting, hand quilting and quilt block making. Throughout the day Friday, mini-quilt lessons were offered.

The History Center Gift Shop, PWC Quilt Shop and several vendors provided opportunities to shop and a quick stop at the R & J Café offered delicious sandwiches and pies.

Judge Cindy Claycamp was complimentary of the variety of quilts entered and the talent of the quilters.

Selecting from category winners, Claycamp chose the quilt, “Poppies” created by local quilter Connie Pockevich, for Best Hand Quilting. “Poppies” also earned the Judge’s Choice Award and was selected by show visitors to receive the Viewer’s Choice Award.

“Not My Mother’s Flower Garden,” created by Cathy Bahnsen of Columbus earned Best of Show.

Best Machine Quilting was awarded to Donna Molzon from Martinsville for her quilt, “Abbey Squares”.

The Pioneer Women’s Club designed and created a quilt, “Christmas Stars,” to raffle as a fundraiser for the Historical Society. Cynthia Littlejohn won it. After the winning ticket was drawn, the club unveiled the 2018 raffle quilt, “Bluebirds,” which is on display at the History Center. Tickets for this quilt are available from PWC members.

Pioneer Women’s Club members are already at work planning for the 2018 quilt show which will again take place at the Brown County History Center. However, it will be in June this year, June 1-3.

Pioneer Women’s Club members meet each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the History Center on the lower level. Guests and those interested in learning and/or promoting homemaker crafts of earlier times are welcome.
