Register for youth basketball, cheerleading

Brown County Parks & Recreation is accepting basketball registrations for players from Grades 5 to 9 and cheerleading registrations from Grades 3 to 6. Games will be Saturdays starting in January.

The fee is $50 per basketball player or $30 per cheerleader. On the registration form, include preferred practice location of Helmsburg, Sprunica or Van Buren elementary schools.

The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 1. After the deadline, a late fee of $10 per person will be added.

Coaches, assistant coaches and team sponsors are needed. The fee to sponsor a team is $175.

Register for Reindeer Romp in state park

The Reindeer Romp, an 8K (about 5-mile) run or a 5K (about 3-mile) run/walk, will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Brown County State Park Nature Center.

Proceeds for the race go to the Brown County YMCA financial assistance program.

Packet pickup will be from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 at the YMCA or from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. race day at the Nature Center. On race day, registration costs $25.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female winners of each run and walk. Medals will be given to each first-place winner, male and female, in the following age categories: 11 and younger, 12 to 14, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 and older.

Register for yoga rejuvenation retreat

HELMSBURG — Barefoot Yoga, 2082 State Road 45, will host a two-hour rejuvenation retreat from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 9.

Led by guest yoga teacher Yulia Azriel, the retreat will include yoga nidra (psychic sleep) and yoga therapy balls.

Early bird admission is $35; two weeks prior, it increases to $40

Kyokushin karate training offered

Sensei David Michaelis is offering training in traditional kyokushin karate.

Classes are for students 16 and older twice a week, at 6 p.m. Thursdays and 4 p.m. Sundays.

Michaelis has trained and taught kyokushin karate for more than 35 years. Kyokushin, Japanese for “the society of the ultimate truth,” is a style of stand-up, full-contact karate. It is intended to foster humility, perseverance and nonviolence and to provide a foundation for improving physical and mental discipline.

Partake in tea and yoga at Simply Fitness

An easy, 30-minute session of yoga movement will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at Simply Fitness, 59 E. Main St. The yoga session will be followed by tea sampling in the studio with Laura Boyer of Sweetea’s.

Free running club open to all levels

Brown County Runners, a club open to all paces, plans free weekly runs on trails and roads in and around Brown County.

The club runs most Wednesdays at 6 p.m., usually in Brown County State Park and often does a Saturday or Sunday morning run at one of the parks or forests.

Disc golf league plays every Tuesday

The Brown County Disc Golf Alliance plays regularly in Brown County and new members are welcome.

The group plays Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at Deer Run Park or at the Brown County Country Club, alternating months. In November, it’s the club.

Players of all skill levels are welcome, including those who have never played before. Loaner discs are available.

Open gym times offered at YMCA

The Brown County YMCA offers open gym for basketball, volleyball and pickleball for players 16 and older of all ability levels, with informal, friendly games.

Basketball is offered from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for junior and senior high school students; 5 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays for all ages; and 7:30 to 10 p.m. Mondays for players 18 and older.

Volleyball is offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

Pickleball is 6 to 8 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, 7 to 9 a.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The rock wall is open from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays for all ages.

Open gym hours are free for Y members and $3 per non-member.
