VAN BUREN TWP. — A home on Buffalo Pike was lost in a fire Sunday afternoon.

The call to the 9800 block of Buffalo Pike came in at about noon, according to dispatch records. It was already fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, said Evan Johnson, assistant chief of Southern Brown Volunteer Fire Department.

Southwest Bartholomew and Pershing Township volunteer fire departments were requested to supply water, Johnson said. Southwest sent one tanker and Pershing Township sent two.

Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene, but they were later called off after it was determined there was enough manpower, Johnson said.

Crews were on the scene for at least six hours. An investigator from Bartholomew County was requested to determine the cause, Johnson said.

Southern Brown County firefighter Terry Miller and the fire inspector believe the cause was due to a high energy arc flash in the main breaker panel that shorted the main power into the panel, Johnson said.

He said there was no indication of foul play.

No one was injured. Johnson said he was not sure if the homeowners were living there full-time or if it was being used as a weekend home.
