Teen accused of biting relative

A Brown County teen was arrested Dec. 8 after police say she slapped and bit the ankle of a relative in the presence of a 2-year-old.

Rebekah McCoy, 18, was charged Dec. 11 with domestic battery and interference with the reporting of a crime, both Class A misdemeanors.

The investigating officer and Brown Circuit Judge Judith Stewart found probable cause to elevate the battery charge to a Level 6 felony, because it occurred in the presence of a minor, according to paperwork on file with the prosecutor’s office, but the charge was listed as a misdemeanor in online court records.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Eggebrecht reported seeing broken skin on the victim’s left ankle. The reason for the confrontation was not noted in his probable cause affidavit.

The charging document from the prosecutor’s office says that McCoy also interfered with or prevented the victim from making an emergency call.
