A Nashville teen who was reported as a runaway last week has been found safe in Texas with a 35-year-old man.

The girl’s mother called police to report her 17-year-old as a runaway just before midnight Dec. 11, said Nashville Chief of Police Ben Seastrom.

Seastrom said the girl sent a message to her mother saying she was not coming home and then turned her cellphone off.

Seastrom said information from the girl’s friends and search warrants for cellphones led to police finding her in an apartment in Uvalde, Texas, Tuesday morning.

“I’ve been looking for her steadily all week,” Seastrom said.

The man had come to Indiana to meet her, and the two left together. Seastrom said the two met online, but he was not sure of the extent of their relationship.

He said he has not interviewed the man in question so he doesn’t know his intentions.

The teen is being held by authorities in Texas as her parents work with the Brown County Probation Department to bring her home.

No charges have been filed yet against the man. Seastrom said he has submitted a report to the prosecutor’s office that may result in charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Seastrom said he did not publicize the runaway situation because by the next day, he knew she was not in Indiana. “I didn’t go that route because it was hard telling where she was heading,” he said.
