Hunter cited for marijuana, paraphernalia possession

A Nashville man was issued a summons by Indiana Conservation Officers Dec. 2 after they reported that he had marijuana and paraphernalia on him while hunting.

Robert Klakamp and Brent Bohbrink were patrolling in Brown County at around 8:15 p.m. when they saw a vehicle with no lights on sitting in the Nebo Ridge Trail parking lot on Monroe Reservoir property, Klakamp’s report said.

As the officers approached the vehicle, they noticed two red lights in the field west of the parking lot. Klakamp said it was a common spot for people to hunt deer, turkey and other animals.

The hunters told them they were hunting coyotes. The officers checked the licenses of Jerry Scott Perkins, 46, and a second person. While checking Perkins’ license, Klakamp reported smelling marijuana.

When asked about the smell, Perkins said he had smoked earlier, but that he did not have any more. When he was asked again, Perkins said there was a “bowl in his pocket,” the affidavit states.

Perkins showed the officers a marijuana smoking device and a tin that had two burnt marijuana cigarettes in it. The items were confiscated and Perkins was issued a summons to appear in court on possession of marijuana and paraphernalia charges. He was charged Dec. 14 with two misdemeanors.
