NASHVILLE

Longtime Brown County resident, Edith A. Henderson, passed from this life Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, surrounded by her family.

Edith was born Oct. 21, 1923, in London, England. She served as a nurse in Britain’s Royal Air Force during WWII. During a weekend furlough in London, she met her future husband, an American Army Air Corps officer named William “Bill” Marion Henderson. The couple married in London on Aug. 21, 1944, and returned to Bill’s native Brown County, Indiana, at the end of the war.

The family grew to include six children, Marian Altop (Donald), Richard Henderson (Brenda, deceased), James Henderson, Robert Henderson (Candace), Barbara Vasquez (Sam) and Rebecca Patton (Charles). Edith also had seven grandchildren she devoted her life to, David Henderson, Rodney Henderson, Jeff Henderson (Laura), Jenny Slinker (Jason), Andy Bond (Joey), Sara True (Tim) and Chris Wooton (Carey); 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Edith provided countless cookies, immeasurable amounts of sage wisdom, and a discipline that melted into a silly joy for her family.

The family is especially grateful for the care team staff at Brown County Health & Living for the loving care Edith received.

There will be no service. A celebration of this remarkable life will occur in the spring, when the dogwoods and redbuds are in bloom.

Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1682 State Road 135 North, is entrusted with arrangements.

Online condolences may be given to the family at BondMitchellFuneralHome.com.
