The first election of 2018 isn’t for another five months, but people planning to run for office in the primary election have a series of deadlines to meet starting in January.

Jan. 10: First day a declaration of candidacy for a major political party primary nomination may be filed; first day an independent or minor party candidate may file a petition for nomination for the general election for verification of petition signatures; first day to file a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate for the general election.

Feb. 9: Deadline, by noon, to file a declaration of candidacy for major political party nomination.

Feb. 12: Deadline, by noon, to file a withdrawal of candidacy for the primary election.

Feb. 16: Deadline, by noon, for filing candidate challenges.

May 8: Primary Election Day

Offices that will be on the primary election ballot in Brown County are:

•U.S. Representative, 9th District (two years)

•State Representative, District 65 (two years)

•Brown Circuit judge (six years)

•Brown County prosecutor (four years)

•Brown County clerk (four years)

•Brown County auditor (four years)

•Brown County sheriff (four years)

•Brown County coroner (four years)

•Brown County assessor (four years)

•Brown County commissioner, District 2 (northwest Brown County) (four years)

•Brown County council, districts 1, 2, 3 and 4 (four years)

•Township trustees, Hamblen, Jackson, Van Buren and Washington townships (four years)

•Township board members, all townships, three seats (four years)

•Democratic Party precinct officials (four years)

•Democratic Party state delegates (two years)

•Republican Party state delegates (two years)

The deadline for a resident to register to vote in Brown County in the primary election is midnight April 9.
