Highway department truck lost in fire

The Brown County Highway Department lost a dump truck when its engine blew and caught fire on Jan. 4 at Old State Road 46 and Snyder Road.

When Lt. Mike Moore with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department arrived at 11:02 a.m., the truck’s cab was fully engulfed. Brown County Highway Department employees were also at the site directing traffic.

The driver told Moore that he was eastbound on Old 46 going up the hill past Snyder Road when he heard a loud pop and the truck lost power, according to the report.

The driver stopped the dump truck and exited the vehicle when he saw fire under the hood. He attempted to put the fire out with an extinguisher in the truck, but was unsuccessful, the report states.

Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department firefighters put out the fire and the truck was towed.

Brown County Highway Superintendent Mike Magner said the truck is a total loss and the department is waiting on the insurance company to review the situation. He said the truck will have to be replaced.
