VAN BUREN TWP. — A Brown County man was arrested and charged with felonies after police say he hit a woman multiple times and threatened to kill her.
Brown County Dispatch received a 911 call Dec. 27 from a home on John Butler Road. Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Joe Jackson, who later reviewed the audio, wrote that he heard a man yelling and a woman crying and striking sounds, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Jackson was the officer to respond to the home, at about 5:45 a.m. He reported hearing yelling when he got out of the patrol car. He knocked on the door and announced his presence, and the yelling quieted, he wrote.
The victim opened the door. Jackson reported that she was crying, disheveled and was visibly shaking. She “meekly” pointed down the hall, he wrote.
Jackson reported seeing Christopher Randall, 38, of Bellsville Pike, standing naked at the end of a hallway, the affidavit states. He asked him to put pants on and go to the kitchen.
Jackson spoke with the victim in the living room. She told him that Randall had been yelling at her.
Jackson reported seeing bruises on her face and that she still was uncontrollably shaking. She told Jackson that Randall had not hit her, but he did hit her with a pillowcase. She then showed Jackson her leg that was bruised and swollen. She said Randall had kicked her, the affidavit said.
The woman told Jackson that Randall had been physically abusive to her for the last two months. She showed a female EMT the rest of the bruising on her body. The EMT took photos of her injuries.
An ambulance took the woman to Columbus Regional Hospital for a domestic battery evaluation.
Randall was arrested and taken to the Brown County jail. Officers interviewed him, but what he told them was not included in the probable cause affidavit.
Jackson called the 911 recording “disturbing.” His report said that it contained “extreme verbal abuse” coming from Randall along with striking noises, and at one point, Randall said, “I’m going to kill you.”
Randall was charged Dec. 29 with intimidation, a Level 6 felony; criminal confinement, a Level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
