YELLOWWOOD — Eight masked people were issued written warnings Thursday night after reportedly trespassing on Yellowwood State Forest property.

The Indiana Forest Alliance issued a press release at about 6 p.m., saying that a group of forest advocates had been arrested at Yellowwood State Forest at Orcutt Road.

About three hours later, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources also issued a press release, which said that eight masked trespassers were issued written warnings. It said conservation officers had responded to a call about trespassing on state forest property.

The warnings were for criminal trespassing in an area closed to the public for an ongoing timber harvest.

“Contrary to early reports from local residents and opposition groups, the masked subjects were not arrested,” the DNR’s press release said. “The situation ended after the warnings were given.”
