Quilters guild

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Star Quilters Guild’s regular monthly meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 7 at the Masonic Lodge, 4131 Rocky Ford Road. Doors open at 8:45 a.m. and the meeting starts at 9:30 a.m.

The program will be presented by several guild members showing hand-quilting techniques.

All are encouraged to bring their latest sewing project for show-and-tell. It is also requested that participants bring one 12.5-inch finished square with a valentine theme to contribute to the block-of-the-month project. All squares will be put into a drawing, and the one drawn will take home all the squares contributed for the month.

There is no charge for the meeting; all are welcome.

If Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. cancels classes, the quilters meeting is cancelled.

Woodworkers club

The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 the Brown County Public Library. Zane Powell will give a program on workshop safety.

Rotary Club

Tim Kelley will discuss the water catchment system at Ogada Children’s Home in Kenya when the Brown County Rotary Club meets at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. The breakfast meeting will be at Nashville’s Artist Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

Kelley, a retired journeyman carpenter working with nonprofit group Chariots for Hope, brought clean water to more than 100 orphans at the children’s home.

Members of the community are invited to attend the Rotary meeting, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to be of service.

Widowed group

The Brown County Widowed Group will meet at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Sycamore Valley Community Center, 746 Memorial Drive at the fairgrounds.

The topic for discussion will be learning to cope with the demise of close relatives and friends, so that, in a sense, you are the “last rose of the summer.”

Any widowed person is welcome.

Weight-loss group

COLUMBUS — National nonprofit weight-loss group Take Off Pounds Sensibly, also known as TOPS, meets in the MainSource Bank meeting room, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Monday meetings begin with weigh-ins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30 a.m.

Preservation society

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, meets at 1 and 4:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. The next meeting will be Feb. 13. The public is welcome at all events.

Beekeepers

The 10 o’clock Beeline Beekeepers Club will have its first meeting of 2018 at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12 in the lower level of the Brown County Public Library. The group will discuss getting ready for spring and The Beekeepers of Indiana’s Bee School to be conducted on Feb. 24. Anyone wishing to start a hive is encouraged to attend. WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meeting is Feb. 15. Meetings are at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.
