Yellowwood Road work to resume in spring

Work on the second phase of the Yellowwood Road project is expected to start sometime in April.

Milestone Contractors was chosen as the lead contractor for the work along Yellowwood Road and Yellowwood Lake Road this year.

The work, projected to cost $4.36 million, will involve reconstructing a 2,000-foot section of Yellowwood Road north of State Road 46; and rebuilding nearly 3 miles of the gravel Yellowwood Lake Road north of the lake parking lot.

Yellowwood Road will be closed for a 14-day period in April to grind up the existing roadbed, build a new base and top the new road with asphalt.

In June, the contractor will move to the Yellowwood Lake Road work site. From the parking lot and boat ramp north to Lanam Ridge Road, Yellowwood Lake Road/Duncan Road will be strengthened, new culverts and drainage pipes added, and the creek bank stabilized. This construction will require a 120-day closure.

Last year, roads south of Yellowwood Lake’s parking lot — including a 300-foot bridge on Yellowwood Road at Salt Creek — were constructed under a $4.6 million contract.

Health department getting county credit card

Brown County government is raising its credit limit by $2,500 so that the Brown County Health Department can have its own credit card.

The department needs one so that health department staff members don’t have to use their own credit cards to reserve hotel rooms or register for conferences, said office manager Judy Hess. Sometimes, they must wait 30 to 40 days to be reimbursed, she said.

The commissioners agreed that employees shouldn’t have to tie up their personal money for that.

At their Feb. 7 meeting, they unanimously approved issuing one card for the entire department to use, which will be in Hess’ name.
