Bean Blossom food pantry open once a month
BEAN BLOSSOM — Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church’s food pantry is open from 9 to 11 a.m. on the last Wednesday of each month to all people. The pantry and church are just off State Road 135 North, about a half-mile north of Bean Blossom.
Alzheimer’s webinars, phone program available
The Alzheimer’s Association now offers live, interactive webinars online, as well as programs by phone.
A program by phone, “Coconut Oil, Vitamins and Alzheimer’s: What Really Works?” will be offered at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 13. Dr. Robert Russell, medical director of Kindred at Home in Indianapolis, will discuss approved methods of treatment for Alzheimer’s symptoms and how to access them. “Coping with Difficult Behaviors in Dementia: Strategies You Can Use Today,” an online webinar, will be offered at noon and 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28. Dr. Margaret Baumann, chief of geriatric medicine at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, will share effective non-drug strategies to manage behaviors. Vaccines for uninsured available at health department
The Brown County Health Department, on the second floor of the County Office Building, 201 Locust Lane, is offering all immunizations free of charge for uninsured adults.
Vaccines include tetanus, hepatitis A and B, dTap, MMR, PVC13, PPSV23, varicella and others.

Literacy coalition meets third Tuesdays
Brown County Literacy Coalition Board meets at 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month downstairs at Brown County Public Library. The next meeting will be March 20.
Anyone interested in learning more about how to support early-childhood literacy is welcome.
Support group for loss of child
Compassionate Friends, a national self-help organization for families that have experienced the death of a child, meets at 6:30 p.m. on third Tuesdays at Nashville United Methodist Church. The next meeting will be March 20 at the church, 36 S. Jefferson St.
Compassionate Friends of South Central Indiana is a group that reaches out to all people who are grieving the loss of a child with love, understanding and hope.

Support group for family members of addicts
COLUMBUS — A support group for families of opioid addicts will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22 at Mill Race Center.
The Family Hope and Support Group will provide “an emotionally safe and non-judgmental place” for participants. It meets the fourth Thursday of each month.
There is no charge to attend. Attendance and personal information will be kept private by facilitators Ray Morris, licensed clinical social worker; Leah Boas, licensed social worker; and Shannon Thallis.

Ministry provides cancer support program
GNAW BONE — Nondenominational group Heart of Christ Ministries, 5181 State Road 46 East, offers a program called Thriving Hope Cancer Care Ministry.
Sponsored by Our Journey of Hope from the cancer treatment centers of America, the ministry provides people touched by cancer with help and spiritual counsel specific to the needs of cancer patients, caregivers or loved ones. Leaders completed a Bible-based cancer care training program.

Lions club’s annual grant cycle changes
The Brown County Lions Club has changed its grant cycle to coincide with the fiscal year that runs from July 1 through June 30.
Organizations wishing to submit a grant application request in July should watch for information in the Brown County Democrat in mid-June.
Addiction recovery support offered at church
From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, New Life Community Church, 1450 State Road 135 North, hosts weekly recovery support meetings, known as Battlefield For Freedom, for people struggling with addiction. For more information, call Melissa Tatman at 812-320-9838.

A women’s recovery group meets at 6:30 p.m. Mondays for about 90 minutes.
