Enroll, register for Ivy Tech classes March 21 at CRC

The Ivy Tech Community College director of admissions will be at the Brown County Career Resource Center from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, to help students enroll and register. The CRC is at 246 E. Main St. downtown. No appointment is required.

Discounts offered for multiple class enrollments

The Brown County Career Resource Center offers discounts for multiple enrollments or for friends who enroll in classes at the same time. The discount does not apply to Ivy Tech classes.

Register for beginning Quick Books class at CRC

An accounting program for small business, a beginning Quick Books class is offered at the Brown County Career Resource Center, depending on community interest. Call 812-988-5880 for more information.

Sign language classes starting again in May

American Sign Language classes are offered at the Brown County Career Resource Center. A new beginning class will start in May. Classes run for eight weeks from 6 to 8 p.m. Call 812-988-5880 for more information or to register.

Register to become a nursing assistant

Certified nursing assistant classes are offered periodically throughout the year at the Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St. The next CNA class will begin Tuesday, June 12.

High school equivalency class times set each week

Classes focused on the high school equivalency assessment exam — formerly called GED classes — are taught year-round from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St.

Students who cannot attend then can arrange instruction by appointment or by distance learning.

Those enrolled in adult education may be eligible for free job training through WorkOne.

Small-business counseling available for free

The Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St., offers individual small-business counseling sessions through the Service Corps of Retired Executives.

There is no charge for the sessions, which meet in the morning on the first Thursday of every month. An appointment is required.

Tutoring sessions for teens offered through BETA

Area junior high and high school students can get tutoring weekdays at either school.

A permission slip signed by the student’s parent or guardian is required. Slips can be picked up during office hours at the junior high office, 95 Schoolhouse Lane, and high school office, 235 Schoolhouse Lane, and from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Brown County Enrichment for Teens Association Inc. (BETA) center, upstairs at 45 S. Jefferson St.

Sessions at the junior high are offered from 3 to 4 p.m. after school on Mondays and Wednesdays.

At the high school, sessions are offered from 7:45 to 8:15 a.m. before school and from 10:50 to 11:20 a.m. during study hall on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The BETA tutoring program is funded by grants from the Coalition for a Drug Free Brown County.

High school teachers get free supplies

BLOOMINGTON — High school teachers in Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Monroe and Owen counties are eligible to shop for supplies at Teachers Warehouse in Bloomington.

The warehouse, 524 N. Fairview St., has resumed regular hours: From 3:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays.

Teachers Warehouse, a nonprofit organization, was launched in 2004 by the Bloomington Rotary Club. It has grown to serve public school teachers in five counties, with support from all area Rotary clubs as well as individuals, organizations and businesses. The warehouse is totally volunteer-powered, with 80 regular and special-event volunteers.
