Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 30 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery, Brown County.

Jim was born Jan. 31, 1930, in Indianapolis, to the late James Otto and Mabel (Bolton) Fox.  He married Lula Ireta (Miller) Fox on July 24, 1982 under a sycamore tree in Brown County.  She lovingly survives after 35 years of marriage.

Jim was a hard-working husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed living and raising his family in Brown County.  He was a former member of Goshen Community Church in Brown County and was instrumental with the most recent remodel of the church, along with several other longtime church members. Jim was also a former member of TRIAD in Brown County.

After retiring from Holland Motor Express in 1985, where he had been a dock worker for 33 years, Jim kept busy with carpentry, gardening and raising cattle and hogs. He was an avid ‘coon and rabbit hunter in days past and found high school sports more interesting than professional sports because the students played for the love of the game. Jim loved getting together with family, especially with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jim will be missed by his children, Charles Stephen (Brenda) Fox of Ellettsville, Brenda (Kenny) Mullis of Unionville, Debbie (Ray) Guffey, Cheryl Ann Unger, Gary Fox, Gregory Fox, Thomas (Benita) Fox, Dennis Fox and Joseph “Joe” (Georgia) Fox, all of Brown County; stepchildren, April (Joe) Carter of Columbus, Wanda F. (Shannon) Nash of Indianapolis, Karen (Bill) Brooks of Colorado, Debra (Dennis) Sanders, Robin Whitaker, Richard (Bessie) Sumpter, Jeffery (Natalie) Sumpter, Brian Sumpter and Colleen (Robert) Slevin, all of Brown County; 16 grandchildren; 22 stepgrandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 33 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild on the way. Jim is also survived by close friends, Pete Schrougham of Nashville and Joe Black of Trafalgar.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine H. (Weaver) Fox; son, Jimmy Ray Fox; grandson, Eddie Guffey; stepgrandson, Kelby Sumpter; siblings, Edna Pursey, Lorean Gray, Loretta Woodall, Mabel Condon, Raymond, Daniel and Russell Fox.
