Christine Rose (Schulz) Grothouse, 95, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Gardens of Germantown Assisted Living in Germantown, Tennessee. She was a resident of Nashville, Indiana.
Christine was born July 20, 1922, in Ilmenau, Thuringia in Germany, to the late Dr. Walter Johannis and Irma Helene (Suckow) Schulz. She married Ralph H. Grothouse on Sept. 4, 1971 in Greencastle. He preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 2016, after 44 loving years of marriage.
Christine’s early education was in private schools in Gnadenefrei, Niesky and Potsdam, Germany. Her initial college study was at Humbolt University in Berlin, with some additional study at DePauw University in Greencastle and Indiana University in Bloomington. Christine began her healthcare career at Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle. Her career spanned 20 years and included finance and administration. Christine retired from Charter Medical Corporation in 1980 where she held the prestigious titles of president at Illinois Health Services Corporation and chief executive officer at Barclay Hospital in Chicago.
Christine was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Nashville, the American Association of Healthcare Administrators, American Association of Psychiatric Administrators, and the Hospital Financial Management Association.
Christine is survived by two daughters, Susan Ann (Richard) Rannochio of Bloomington and Sara (Colquett) Ann Van Dyke of Collierville, TN; grandchildren, Elliot (April) May of Mississippi, Erik (Jenna) May of Nashville, TN, Alexander and Jessica Rannochio of Bloomington; several cousins still in Germany; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1008 McLary Road in Nashville. Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until service time July 21 at the church.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
