Club news for week of April 4

Quilters guild

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Star Quilters Guild’s regular monthly meeting will be Wednesday, April 4 at the Masonic Lodge, 4131 Rocky Ford Road. Doors open at 8:45 a.m. and the meeting starts at 9:30 a.m.

All are encouraged to bring their latest sewing project for show-and-tell. There is no charge for the meeting; all are welcome.

Woodworkers club

VAN BUREN TWP. — The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet for a scroll saw tutorial at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 at Dan Johnson‘s shop, 7290 State Road 135 South.

Rotary club

Patti Reynolds, president and executive director of the Indiana Raptor Center, will discuss the center’s mission when the Brown County Rotary Club meets for breakfast Thursday, April 5 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn.

Reynolds may be accompanied by an education ambassador (a raptor, but not a velociraptor) at the 7:15 a.m. meeting.

Retired from a research and regulatory career at Eli Lilly, Reynolds is now engaged full time with the rehabilitation, education and conservation of birds of prey at the center.

Members of the community are welcome to attend the meeting at 105 S. Van Buren St., especially those interested in opportunities to be of service.

WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meeting will be April 5 at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.

Weight-loss group

COLUMBUS — National nonprofit weight-loss group Take Off Pounds Sensibly, also known as TOPS, meets in the MainSource Bank meeting room, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Monday meetings begin with weigh-ins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30 a.m.

Beekeepers club

The 10 o’clock Beeline Beekeepers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, April 9, in a lower-level meeting room of the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane.

The major topic of discussion will be preventing swarming, and getting ready for the early nectar flow.

The club welcomes anyone interested in bees or beekeeping; those interested in starting a beehive are particularly encouraged to attend. Experienced beekeepers are available as mentors.

Cemetery society

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, meets at 1 p.m. and again at 4:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. The next meeting will be April 10. The public is welcome at all events.

Preservation group

Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc. will have its third annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 at the Howard F. Hughes Community Building, 209 N. Van Buren St. Mark Dollase, vice president of preservation services at Indiana Landmarks, will be the guest speaker.

This is an opportunity to learn more about the organization, offer suggestions and ask questions.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society meets at 6:30 p.m the third Monday of each month in a lower-level meeting room at the Brown County Public Library. The next meeting will be April 16. The public is welcome.
