A house on Walls Road was lost to a fire last week and its cause is still unknown.

Fire departments were dispatched to the 200 block of Walls Road just before 11 p.m. April 25. A neighbor called dispatch to report seeing a fire and heard popping sounds.

Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department Chief Nick Kelp said that a police officer patrolling at the Circle K gas station was first on scene. When firefighters arrived on the hill, the house was fully engulfed, Kelp said.

One woman was living at the home. She was at work when the fire started, Kelp said.

One dog died in the fire. Three cats were also living in the home, but firefighters couldn’t find them, Kelp added.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and is undetermined so far, he said.

Cordry-Sweetwater, Fruitdale, Hamblen Township and Jackson Township volunteer fire departments assisted. The scene wasn’t cleared until 5:30 a.m April 26.

Firefighters also responded for a rekindle after 8:30 p.m. that day and were on scene until almost 11 p.m.

Kelp said that the woman was being assisted by God’s Grace ministry and was staying with relatives.
