SCHOOL NEWS: School board approves personnel changes, leave requests

The Brown County School Board of Trustees approved the following April 19:

  • Requests for Kathryn Kabe, Shane Killinger, Jacob Koressel, Christy Wrightsman, Debbie Harman and Larry Swafford to attend a P-Tech site visit in Kingston, New York, April 30 to May 2. This trip is fully funded by Regional Opportunity Initiatives.
  • A request for Koressel to attend the International Science Fair in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, May 13 to 18.
  • The donation of an environmental chamber from MACTAC to Brown County High School. An environmental chamber allows for temperature and humidity to be monitored to allow science projects to be conducted under a stable situation, Superintendent Laura Hammack said. The chambers are valued at around $8,000. School board Secretary Marlene Barnett’s son helped to organize the donation.
  • A maternity leave notice for Kaeley Taylor beginning March 26 until the start of the next school year.
  • A field trip to Kings Island for after-prom in Mason, Ohio, May 20.
  • Separating BCHS computer science teacher Koressel at the end of the school year. This also includes his extra-curricular activity positions of Brown County Intermediate School fifth-grade volleyball coach, BCIS head girls track coach, BCHS technology coach, BCHS student council adviser and BCHS Math Academic team coach. This was not a termination.
  • Separating Brown County Schools bus monitor Amber Wimmenauer, effective immediately. This was not a termination,
  • Appointing BCS bus monitor Sara Johnston, part-time without benefits, $10.50 per hour, 180 days. She is a replacement for Michelle Hatchett, who was transferred to special needs bus driver, full-time with benefits, $86 per day, 180 days. Hatchett was a replacement for Patrick Knapp.
  • Transferring BCHS English-language arts teacher Dustin Robinson to Brown County Junior High School English-language arts teacher, effective 2018-2019 school year. He is a replacement for Brad Baughman, who is retiring.
