Driver checked for injuries after crash at state park entrance

A Nashville woman was treated at the scene by EMS after her vehicle was hit by another vehicle trying to leave Brown County State Park on May 5.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. at the state park north gate on State Road 46 East, according to a report by Lt. Mike Moore with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

Brooke J. Mitchell, 28, of Indianapolis, told police she was attempting to exit the park and go west, when the stopped traffic in the eastbound lane opened and one of the drivers motioned for her to pull out.

There was a vehicle attempting to turn left into the park, and when Mitchell pulled out, a vehicle was in the westbound lane of 46 East. She attempted to swerve left to avoid a collision, but was unable to do so, the report states.

Mitchell collided with a vehicle driven by Leslie J. Fish, 46, of Nashville. Fish told police that while she was passing the state park entrance, Mitchell pulled out and struck her vehicle, according to the accident report.

Mitchell was issued a warning for failure to yield and a ticket for having no proof of insurance on her vehicle.

Fish was checked out by EMS for neck and back pain, but signed a release to go for treatment on her own, the report states.

Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
