Coach’s comments: Thursday evening, the boys finished sixth out of 28 scoring teams at the Bloomington North Regional. The evening was highlighted by the 4×800 regional championship performance from the team consisting of Isaiah Keefauver, Marino Dolph, Jackson McPheeters and Wyatt Wyman. The 4×800 ran a season-best time of 7:57.99. Wyman and McPheeters also captured individual state qualifications, finishing second and third, respectively, in the 800. In the last event of the evening, the 4×400 team of Keefauver, Dale Phelps, McPheeters and Wyman won their initial heat and waited to see where their time would rank them against the final heat. They ended up third by two-tenths of a second over Bloomington North, so they will also compete at the state championship. Dolph scored for the Eagles in the 3200, finishing seventh, and Keefauver competed well in the high jump. Whiteland 162, Brown County 175

Brown Co.: Parker VanNess 34 (medalist), Ben Rygiel 44, Brendon Asher 48, Curtis Lookebill 49, Peyton Proctor 53, Rex Watters 65, Jake Huddleston 65, Emerey Brock 68.

Coach’s comments: Parker VanNess claimed medalist honors with a two-under round of 34 and three other BCHS golfers came in under 50 to help the Eagles post a competitive team score of 175. Unfortunately, the victorious, visiting Whiteland Warriors were just too deep and talented, recording no score higher than a 43 on their eight-man roster.

The Warriors’ Zach Ricketts finished three shots behind VanNess to capture the runner-up medalist honors. For the Eagles, Ben Rygiel 44, Brendon Asher 48, and Curtis Lookebill 49 contributed to the scoring.

Brown County, nearing the end of its schedule, plays Edgewood Thursday, May 24, at Cascades Golf Course in Bloomington, and hosts Morristown Tuesday, May 29, at Salt Creek Golf Retreat. Ben Rygiel, the lone senior on this year’s team, will be honored following that match.

The IHSAA sectional is scheduled for Monday, June 4, at Bloomington Country Club. The Eagles will tee off at 8 a.m. on hole No. 10 with Trinity Lutheran and Brownstown Central.

May 24

Edgewood 180, Brown County 190

Brown Co.: Parker VanNess 42, Ben Rygiel 48, Curtis Lookebill 50, Brendon Asher 50, Peyton Proctor 58.

Playing their last scheduled road match of the season, the Eagles posted one of their highest nine-hole scores of the year and lost to the host Edgewood Mustangs.

After a few days off over the Memorial Day weekend, the Eagles will return to action Tuesday, May 29, when they host Morristown. That match is scheduled to begin early, approximately 3:45, since Morristown is not in school and will arrive early. Senior Ben Rygiel will be honored following the match.
