Portion of Yellowwood Road to close for 120 days

UPDATE 6/5: This closure has been pushed back to Monday, June 11 by the contractor, according to INDOT spokesman Harry Maginity.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A portion of Yellowwood Lake Road will close for 120 days beginning Wednesday, June 6.

The plan is to close a 1.3-mile section of Yellowwood Lake Road from the main parking lot and boat ramp at Yellowwood Lake north to Lanam Ridge Road. A crew will elevate and rebuild the gravel road and install new drainage structures, according to a press release from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Residents of the forest will need to access the road from the north end at Lanam Ridge Road.

This construction is part of phase two of the Yellowwood Road project. It also will include building a single-span bridge on Yellowwood Lake Road over Jackson Creek.

When that construction begins, residents living south of Jackson Creek can access their properties from the south using State Road 46 West. Residents living north of Jackson Creek can continue to use Lanam Ridge Road, according to the INDOT press release.

Milestone is INDOT’s contractor for this $4,363,000, phase two road rehabilitation project.

Last month, Milestone rebuilt a half-mile paved section of Yellowwood Road starting at State Road 46 West.

Last year, phase one construction included paving roads south of Yellowwood Lake’s parking lot and installing a 300-foot bridge on Yellowwood Road at Salt Creek.  Milestone also held that $4,581,000 contract.
