Traffic stop results in man facing felony

YELLOWWOOD — A Bedford man faces a felony for driving after losing his license for life.

Indiana Conservation Officer Joseph Tenbarge reported he was patrolling in the area of Jackson Creek and Yellowwood Lake roads on May 12 when he saw a tan Ford F150 driving east on Jackson Creek Road. He reported that the driver and a female passenger were not wearing seat belts.

Tenbarge stopped the vehicle on Yellowwood Lake Road. While speaking with the driver, Timothy P. Morton, 41, Tenbarge reported smelling alcohol on his breath. The passenger, Heathor Bellon, 42, had an open alcoholic beverage container, his report said.

Morton said they were camping in Yellowwood and had just returned from the dam area. Morton told Tenbarge he did not have his driver’s license with him and that his license was suspended, the report said.

Tenbarge reported that neither the plate nor the VIN on the truck matched records for Morton and that he did not have proof of ownership.

Morton was arrested. Bellon also was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Lawrence County.

On May 17, Morton was charged with operating a motor vehicle after forfeiture for life, a Level 5 felony.
