Driver crosses into lane, hits vehicle head-on

A Brown County man was taken to the hospital after he crossed into the westbound lane in a curve and hit a vehicle head-on June 21.

The crash was reported just before 9 a.m. on Green Valley Road near Kelp Grove Road, according to an accident report by Lt. Mike Moore with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver of the vehicle that was hit, Stuart Coulter, 27, of Brown County, told Moore he was driving west, and as he approached a curve, Robert Kelp, 67, crossed into the westbound lane, hitting him head-on.

Moore was unable to speak with Kelp because he was being treated by EMS; he was taken to the hospital for injuries to his “entire body,” the report states.

One witness said she was driving behind Kelp and that they were both going about 25 MPH prior to the accident.

Another witness was in the area working when Coulter’s vehicle passed him, and said that it accelerated when it passed. That witness also reported seeing Kelp’s vehicle hit Coulter’s in the westbound lane.

Both vehicles were towed. Kelp’s airbag deployed. He was not wearing a seat belt, the report states.

Coulter’s airbag also deployed; he was wearing a seat belt. He was treated at the scene for minor arm bleeding, the report said.
