Pregnant woman taken to hospital after crash on 135 South

VAN BUREN TWP. — A pregnant woman from South Bend was taken to a hospital on June 21 after she hit another vehicle head-on while driving State Road 135 South in Brown County.

Hillary M. Hall, 28, told police she was driving south in the 3000 block when she leaned over to reach for a bottle to get a drink, according an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy William Pool. Hall said when she looked up, she was over the center line and she did not have time to slow down

She hit a vehicle driven by Rex M. Bussinger, 52, of Edinburgh, with the front driver’s side of her car, the report said. Bussinger said he saw Hall’s vehicle on his side of the road and he got over as far as he could without going into the ditch, but the vehicles hit head on.

Hall reported having stomach and wrist pain. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance for further treatment. Bussinger refused treatment at the scene.

Both vehicles were towed. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
