Traffic stop results in meth possession arrest

A stop for having no light on a license plate netted a methamphetamine arrest in Nashville.

Indiana State Trooper Matthew Hatchett stopped a Chevy Trailblazer on State Road 46 East at the Circle K at about 1:20 a.m. May 19.

The driver told the officer that he didn’t realize the light was out, as it was his friend’s vehicle. Dispatch told Hatchett that the driver’s license was suspended, so he was arrested.

The passenger, Patrick Jackson, 31, of Greasy Creek Road, also had a suspended license.

Both men were patted down and the vehicle searched, and Trooper Hatchett and Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy William Pool found no contraband, Hatchett’s report said. However, as Jackson was pulling a cellphone out of his pocket, Pool said that he saw a small corner baggie fall out of his pocket. Inside was a crystalline substance which field-tested positive for methamphetamine, the police report said.

Jackson also was arrested. On May 21, he was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.
