Morris Funkhouser

Morris V. Funkhouser, 95, of Bloomington, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Brown County Health and Living.

A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 30 at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.

Morris was born on Oct. 16, 1922 in Bloomington, the son of Casius and Ruth (VanBuskirk) Funkhouser.

Morris was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Battle of the Bulge. Following his service, Morris worked for Richard Bennett Furniture and became part owner of the Danville location. He worked for McDaniel’s Furniture in Bloomington in the sales department. Following retirement from the furniture business, he became a bus driver for Monroe County Community School Corp.

After retirement, Morris dedicated his life to the study of the Word. He distributed the bi-monthly version of The Daily Bread to the Monroe County Jail, American Legion Post 18 and to local nursing homes. Morris was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church and American Legion Post 18 and enjoyed gun collecting.

Morris is survived by his son, Tim (Cindy) Funkhouser; grandchildren, Georgeann, Carrie, Scott and Kirby; great-grandchildren, Ryne, Shelby, Aliyah, Gunner, Archer, Fisher, Andrew, James and Case; great-great-grandchildren, Taylor, Brady and Riley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara (Pless) Funkhouser; daughter, Terre Funkhouser; infant son, Brian Funkhouser; and half-brother, Richard Bennett.
