Police: Man charged after punching person in face

TREVLAC — Police say a Brown County man hit a person in the face after a woman pulled a gun on him.

Police responded to Long Street on June 5. While en route, Sgt. Scott Bowling with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department reported seeing a man — later identified as Jeremie R. Edwards, 35 — walking away from the incident area, the police report says.

Edwards told the officer that he and a woman had been arguing when she went into the bedroom to get a gun. Edwards said she pulled it on him and he grabbed her in self defense. At that time, the woman’s son grabbed him. He said out of instinct, he turned and struck him in the face, the police report said.

After that, Edwards said he grabbed his ID and some other belongings, including his own gun which he kept locked in the trunk of a car, and began walking toward town, the report said.

Deputies went to speak with the woman and son at the home. The son had a busted upper lip, the police report said.

On June 7, Edwards was charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor. He was accepted into the pretrial diversion program, which is generally for first-time offenders to avoid having a criminal conviction on their records.
