Robert G. Davis

BLOOMINGTON

Robert G. “Bob” Davis, 85, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 24, 2018, at the Garden Villa of Bloomington, from a recent stroke in April. He was a resident of Bloomington and a former resident of Brown County and Morgantown.

Bob will be remembered as a wonderful son, brother, husband and father. He was a Christian and throughout his life he displayed high moral and ethical character. Bob was a stable influence for all those around him.

Bob was born March 12, 1933, in Maryville, TN, to the late Edgar and Rose Eller (Gredicks) Davis. He was raised on a large working farm with four brothers. One of many funny stories he will be remembered for is how, as a young man, he would leave the farm fields, come to the dinner table and eat a whole fried chicken and half of a pan of biscuits, boasting that he never weighed more than 145 lbs. He attended school in Maryville and went on to serve as a Specialist Third Class in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He married Della “Virginia” (Abrams) Davis on March 27, 1953, in Richmond. Their courtship began while living in adjacent apartment buildings. Each evening they would swing on separate porch swings and Bob would send a wink or two over to Virginia; eight months later they were married and began their life journey together. She lovingly survives after 65 devoted years of marriage. Together on a 40-acre farm and home Bob built in Brown County, they raised two daughters, Katherine Sue “Susie” Rejko of Destin, FL, and Marlene “Marti” (Bob) Reynolds of Bloomington. Bob is also survived by a brother, Danny (Donna) Davis of Crossville, TN; grandchildren, Alexandra Nicole Reynolds and Madalyn Rose Reynolds, both of Bloomington; and great-granddaughter, Briley Turner of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by siblings, James, William and Charles Davis; child, Robin Gina Davis; and grandchild, Christin Michelle Turner.

Bob was a master carpenter. He helped build and supervise construction of many commercial structures in the state of Indiana. The last structure he built before retiring was the fire department in Bloomington on 4th and Lincoln. He was favored by his captain and was asked many times to build or repair structures on his base in the Army. He retired from AE Pitcher Construction in 1987, where he was the president and co-founder. After retirement, he continued working in construction for Driftwood Builders and Bob Davis Construction. Bob enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife in their RV. Bob and Virginia were snowbirds every November, driving down to Florida for the winter months. Bob will be remembered for his heart as big as the open sea. His generosity overflowed and he extended a helping hand to many friends and family members over the years. Bob will be remembered for his devotion to the Lord and how reading the King James Version Bible meant so much to him.

The Rev. Edward Law conducted a funeral service Sept. 29 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown. Friends called Sept. 28 at the funeral home. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Brown County, with military rites presented by the Brown County Honor Guard.
