Brown County 1, Waldron 1

No. 1 doubles: Tyler Bowlby/Mitch Coon (W) d. John Oliver/Eli Sichting (BC) 8-6

No. 2 doubles: Reid Davis/Austen Deckard (BC) d. Tyler Bowlby/Mitch Coon (W) 6-4

Coach’s comments: The Eagles traveled to face a tough Waldron Mohawk team. The Eagles were victorious in two matches with Aaron McCann winning at No. 1 singles. I really felt that Aaron played one of his best matches of his career. Josh Miller came back in a three-set victory to help push the Eagles close to victory. The No. 1 doubles team of Aiden and Nolan were a couple of shots from taking their match to a third set. This team is making progress in the close matches and will continue to fight hard and come out as victors in the next couple of years. Our JV players also have continued to improve throughout the season.

Brown Co.: 5-7, fourth in WIC

Sept. 18

Brown County 5, Sullivan 0

No. 1 singles: Aiden Burt (BC) d. Kegar Meng (S) 6-2, 6-0

No. 2 singles: Nolan Patterson (BC) d. Scott Fusco (S) 6-0, 6-1

No. 2 singles: Eli Sichting (BC) 1-0

No. 1 doubles: Chase Watson/Josh Miller (BC) d. Jared Couch/Brayden Cagle (S) 6-1, 6-2

No. 2 doubles: Noah Cochran/Reid Davis (BC) d. Carter Trowbridge/Noah Kincaid (S) 6-2, 6-2

Coach’s comments: The Eagles defeated an inexperienced and short-handed Sullivan Arrows team tonight 5-0. The Eagles mixed up their lineup with the No. 1 doubles team of Aiden and Nolan splitting up to play singles and No. 2 and No. 3 singles players Chase and Josh taking their spot. Noah and Reid played their normal spot. We gave Aaron the night off. It was a good night for the Eagles. The Eagles will take the court again for senior night against Edinburgh on Thursday.

Brown Co.: 6-7, fourth in WIC

Sept. 20

Brown County 3, Edinburgh 2

No. 1 singles: Coltan Henderson (E) d. Nolan Patterson (BC) 6-2,6-0

No. 2 singles: Brayden McManaway (E) d. Spencer Blee (BC) 6-4,6-2

No. 3 singles: John Oliver (BC) d. Travis Jones (E) 6-2,6-1

No. 1 doubles: Chase Watson/Aaron McCann (BC) d. Parker Newman/Kolton Reed (C) 6-0, 6-0

No. 2 doubles: Reid Davis/Noah Cochran (BC) 1-0

Coach’s comments: On a hot senior night, the Eagles defeated a determined Lancer team from Edinburgh. The Eagles got victories from No. 3 singles player John Oliver and the doubles teams of Aaron McCann and Chase Watson. The No. 2 doubles match was a forfeit. It is always tough to say goodbye to a senior, but this one has been a special one. He outworked most and made himself the player he is. His leadership will be missed as much as his voice ringing across courts encouraging other players. It has been a great ride these last four years. Good luck and best wishes, Chase Watson.

Brown Co.: 7-7, fourth in WIC

Sept. 26

Sectional round 1

Brown County 3, Columbus East 2

No. 1 singles: Aaron McCann (BC) d. Luke Miller (CE) 6-1, 6-1

No. 2 singles: Chase Watson (BC) d. Jackson Stevens (CE) 6-2, 6-1

No. 3 singles: Josh Miller (BC) d. Pranav Kumar (CE) 6-1, 3-6, 7-5

No. 1 doubles: JT Kuhlman/Jalen Pleak (CE) d. Nolan Patterson/Aiden Burt (BC) 6-1, 6-0

No. 2 doubles: Derek Heideman/Nathan Hatchett (CE) d. Noah Cochran/Spencer Blee (BC) 6-1, 6-3

Coach’s comments: The Eagles avenged an early season loss to the Olympians tonight with a reversal of the score, 3-2. Singles players Aaron McCann and Chase Watson were efficient winners in their matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Both doubles teams played well but were beaten by better opponents. With the match tied at 2-2, it came down to a freshman, Josh Miller of Brown County, and sophomore Pranav Kumar of Columbus East to decide the match. It was a three-setter the first time this pair met, so it was not a surprise that tonight’s match went three sets again. It was one of the best matches I have seen in a sectional. It was good tennis by both players. The Eagles will play Hauser tomorrow night at 4:30 at Columbus North.

Brown Co.: 8-7

Sept. 27

Sectional round 2

Brown County 3, Hauser 2

No. 1 singles: Aaron McCann (BC) d. Ethan Wallace (H) 6-2, 6-3

No. 2 singles: Chase Watson (BC) d. Sean Miller (H) 7-5, 6-4

No. 3 singles: Josh Miller (BC) d. Keagan Miller (H) 6-3, 6-2

No. 1 doubles: Jacob Luken/Aaron Mee (H) d. Nolan Patterson/Aiden Burt (BC) 6-2, 6-2

No. 2 doubles: Tyler Moore/Caleb Hoover (H) d. Spencer Blee/Noah Cochran (BC) 6-0, 6-7(5), 10-5

Coach’s comments: The Eagles defeated a very determined Jets team from Hauser tonight 3-2, to make it to the sectional finals against the Bull Dogs of Columbus North. All three singles players won in straight sets. Josh was the first to win his match to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. The No. 1 doubles team of Nolan and Aiden got down early but fought hard in the second. Aaron at No. 1 played another consistent match and the No. 2 singles player won a very hard fought match to clinch the victory for the Eagles. The No. 2 doubles team played really well in their second set after being down 0-5. Regardless of the outcome of tomorrow night’s match, this Eagle team has played and worked hard all season. We will miss our lone senior Chase Watson’s leadership and enthusiasm, but mostly we will miss his constant encouragement throughout the matches. This team has already made plans to improve upon our WIC conference placing by outworking everyone in the weight room and on the court. We are not satisfied with fourth place; we want to be conference champions. This team has adopted the phrase, “the best is yet to come,” and I believe it will happen for this Eagle team. Believe, commit, we are Brown County!

Martinsville 314, Bloomington South 367, Brown County 392, Edgewood 394, Indian Creek 401, Bloomington North 410, Edinburgh 455, Owen Valley 487

(Top three teams advance to regional)

Brown Co.: Ashley Masteller 86, Ainslie Winton 92, Allison Stogsdill 104, Taylor Poling 110, Abby Padgett 120

Coach’s comments: The Brown County girls golf team made history Monday with a third-place finish in the IHSAA sectional at Cascades Golf Course in Bloomington that will send them to the regional for the first time since the program’s inception next Saturday at Country Oaks Golf Course in Montgomery. The Eagles shot a 392 to grab the third spot behind runner-up Bloomington South (367) and champion Martinsville (314). Senior Ashley Masteller fired an 86 to lead the Eagles, while freshman Ainslie Winton recorded her best 18-hole score of the season with a 92. Freshman Abby Padgett also had her season best with a 120.

Evansville North 315, Evansville Memorial 341, Bedford NL 342, Martinsville 346, Gibson Southern 358, Floyd Central 365 (won tiebreaker), Seymour 365, Castle 368, Corydon Central 371, Jasper 371, Bloomington South 374, Vincennes Rivet 392, Springs Valley 402, Brown County 409, South Spencer 409, Pike Central 421, Vincennes Lincoln 403, Providence 431

(Top three teams advance to state)

Brown Co.: Ashley Masteller 89, Allison Stogsdill 99, Ainslie Winton 109, Taylor Poling 112, Abby Padgett 135.

Coach’s comments: In their first appearance in the IHSAA regional, the Brown County Lady Eagle golfers battled a steady rain, an unfamiliar and challenging course, and their nerves and finished 14th in the 18-team field with a solid 409. Senior Ashley Masteller, a regional qualifier as a sophomore, was the lone Eagle to have ever played the course. She led the team with an 89 but needed an 83 or lower to advance to the state tournament. Allison Stogsdill had her best round of the season with a 99 that included a 45 on the front side. Ainslie Winton carded a 52 on the front side but struggled on the back to finish with a 109, while Taylor Poling had a rough time on the front but bounced back strong on the back to shoot a 112. Abby Padgett played the back nine well and turned in a 135. Evansville North won the tournament with a blistering 315, and they, along with Evansville Memorial and Bedford North Lawrence, will advance to state.
