A 76-year-old Columbus woman was taken to the hospital on Nov. 3 after the car she was riding in crashed into a tree on Valley Branch Road.

Wayne Nyffeler, 79, of Columbus, was driving north on Valley Branch Road near Mt. Liberty Road when his vehicle went off the east side of the road, Lt. Mike Moore with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department reported in an accident report.

Nyffeler told police he attempted to correct and come back onto the road, but he lost control of the vehicle and it went off the west side before crashing into a tree. The vehicle then flipped onto its right side, Moore reported.

Nyffeler’s passenger, Henrietta Nyffeler, 76, of Columbus, was aken to Columbus Regional Hospital by ambulance with back pain, the report states. Wayne Nyffeler was treated at the scene for minor bleeding to his elbow/lower arm.

The vehicle was towed.

Moore noted that “unsafe speed” was a contributing circumstance in the crash, along with running off the road.

The Nyffelers were wearing seat belts.
