Janice Elaine (Bechtol) Kylander, 84, of Nashville, passed away surrounded by family Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018 in Columbus.

Janice was born Feb. 26, 1934 in Dayton, Ohio to Harry and Helen Bechtol.

She graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio in 1952 as salutatorian of her class. She stayed on at Jefferson School District for nine years as secretary for the high school principal, and then for the superintendent of the school district.

She married Chester (Chet) Ray Kylander on Feb. 18, 1961 in Ellerton, Ohio. They moved to Columbus, Indiana in 1962, where they were active members of First Lutheran Church. They moved to Brown County in 1971 and became settled in as well-known and loved members of the community. Janice devoted herself to her family and church for years. She was the secretary at Nashville United Methodist Church for 16 years and could often be found playing accompaniment piano at many church and social functions all around the county.

Janice’s joy in life was her children and grandchildren. Each of the grandkids would argue that they were her favorite.

Janice was preceded in death by her mother and father; brothers, Dean Bechtol and Glen Bechtol; and son-in-law, Mark Brinegar.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16 at Nashville United Methodist Church, 36 S. Jefferson St. A celebration of life service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at the church, with visitation one hour prior.
