Nicole Goodman was the recipient of $300 through a PEO program to continue her education in pursuit of a nursing degree at Ivy Tech.

PEO continuing education scholarships support women who have had to interrupt their education and are returning to school.

Peggy Brown

The fiber art work of local artist Peggy Brown was accepted and won awards in three international juried fiber art exhibits this fall.

In the International Quilt Association’s World of Beauty Exhibition, “Lost in the Sun,” a hand-painted fiber art collage, won first place in the Surface Design category. Brown’s piece, “Pages in My Book,” won honorable mention in Painted Surface category. The exhibit currently hangs in the quilt festival at the Houston Convention Center. The prize-winning pieces will travel to quilt festivals in Chicago, Illinois (in March) and Kansas City, Missouri (in May).

Hand-painted fiber art piece,”Shade and Shadow,” won the Melange Award in Quilt Visions 2018:Connections. Brown won the award for her “unique combination of materials.” The international exhibit consists of 43 art quilts selected from hundreds of entries by prominent quilt artist jurors. The exhibit will run through Sunday, Jan. 6, at the Visions Art Museum in San Diego, California.

Another piece, “Soliloquy III,” won an honorable mention in October at an American Quilter’s Society juried exhibition in Paducah, Kentucky.
