Letter: Health department offers range of low-cost services

To the editor:

At the Brown County Health Department, we strive to meet the needs of the community. With that in mind, we wanted to reach out to let everyone know what we offer.

In the past, we have been able to offer vaccinations to children and adults who were either uninsured or on Medicaid. In addition to that, we are excited to now be accepting insurance, allowing us to provide immunizations to all.

We are also continuing to provide general wellness checks including: height, weight, blood pressure, pulse rate, hemoglobin and blood sugar levels. These services are free; however, we can also check cholesterol levels for $12.

We have started a sharps container exchange program. Anyone who requires needles for medical reasons can pick up a container and return it when full to the health department for safe and proper disposal.

Narcan (Naloxone) is now available to the public for anyone who would like to have it on hand.

We offer CPR classes with certification. The cost is $17 for the certification card which is payable to IU Health Bloomington. Please call the health department if interested in hosting or joining a class.

If any of our services sound beneficial to you, we would be happy to discuss them further. Please give us a call at 812-988-2255 and ask for the nursing division. We would be happy to offer education on a wide variety of health topics and are also able to travel around to host wellness clinics for the public. Let us know how we can help. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you!
