Since 2013, Jodi Scheve has been writing children’s books that have been inspired by her two young sons.

Her and her husband Rich own the Twisted Wick Candle Company in Nashville. The shop has been open since 2007.

Scheve wrote her first book “The Cow Jumped Over the ABC’s” when her son Richie was 3.

Now she has written her fourth children’s book “Old MacDonald Had a Farm with Lots of Shapes & Colors” for her 2-year-old son Jude because he loves farm animals.

She is also considering writing chapter books since Richie, her oldest son, is now 8.

She said her sons keep her writing.

“I love to teach my boys through creative ways and writing provides that outlet,” she said.

“I really enjoy writing books to help kids learn.”

Her first book, “The Cow Jumped Over the ABCs,” taught upper- and lower-case letters. Her second book, “The Sand Crabs Journey Home,” taught counting to 100. Her third book “Richie Saves Nashville” is about problem-solving skills.

For this book, Scheve worked with illustrator Amanda Pence. Pence is Richie’s art teacher and lives in Nashville. This is the first time the two have collaborated together.

“I love her whimsical drawings that really help the story come alive,” Scheve said.
