County’s economic plan to be discussed at Playhouse

The Brown County Community Foundation and the Brown County Redevelopment Commission will host a public forum on Wednesday, Jan. 23 to discuss the county’s economic strategic plan and possible grant opportunities.

The groups also want residents to complete an online survey to prioritize possible projects. Access to that survey, posted at http://bit.ly/BrownPriorities, will be open through Friday, Jan. 25.

The RDC hosted two meetings in each Brown County township last fall, asking residents what they needed to be able to continue to live in Brown County and giving information about the county’s economic situation at the time. In December, the RDC and community foundation also hosted a daylong forum specifically about the local housing market.

This follow-up meeting will take place at the Brown County Playhouse on Van Buren Street in downtown Nashville from 6 to 8 p.m. The RDC will conduct an optional “interactive open house” from 5 to 6 p.m., at which people are invited to share input and ideas specifically related to economic development planning and improving the county’s economy, a press release said.

The community foundation and RDC have become involved in the Regional Opportunities Ready Communities program. The program is making hundreds of thousands of dollars of grant money available to Indiana communities for specific projects. The community foundation and RDC are working on developing a Quality of Place and Workforce Attraction strategic plan.

“We will ask the community to comment on the findings and make sure we are heading in the right direction,” said foundation CEO Maddison Miller. “It’s important to have large, diverse representation from our community to garner the best results.”
