A local woman was arrested after police say she left the scene of one crash and then caused another.

Amanda Beaver, 37, of Stevens Road, has been charged with unlawful possession or use of a legend drug, a Level 6 felony; and leaving the scene of an accident, a Class B misdemeanor.

On Jan. 11, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Colton Magner responded to a report of a suspect leaving the scene of an accident at the gas station in Morgantown. Morgantown Police reported that a yellow SUV had struck part of the gas pumps while leaving.

While Magner was on his way, dispatch reported a property-damage crash near the 5800 block of State Road 135 North. The vehicle involved matched the description of the one in the Morgantown crash. That vehicle also left the scene and went into a driveway in the 5600 block, the police report said.

Magner found Beaver in the driveway. She said she left the 135 North crash because another vehicle was chasing her. Magner noted in his report that Beaver had crashed because she was passing a truck and sideswept it, meaning that the truck “chasing” her was behind her.

Beaver said she did not hit anyone and was not trying to run from police by trying to leave the driveway she had stopped in.

She was arrested. While inventorying her vehicle, police found an unmarked pill bottle containing white pills that were later identified as Gabapentin, which are used to treat seizures and pain, the report said. The pills are not a controlled substance, but do require a subscription. Beaver said she did not know if she had a prescription in the vehicle, the police report said.
