Caleb ‘Cal’ Temple

ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA

Caleb L. “Cal” Temple of Alexandria, VA, died Aug. 6, 2018, at the age of 51.

Cal was born in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of Bruce Gregory Temple and Sandra Timms Temple. At Bloomington High School North he lettered in swimming and played alto saxophone in the Advanced High School Jazz Band. He was graduated Lieutenant Colonel Junior at Culver Military Summer Camp, Culver, Indiana. He graduated with two degrees from Miami University of Oxford, OH and a master’s degree from George Washington University.

A government employee with the Department of Justice and the Department of Defense, he started his career serving in the National Guard during the Gulf War. Through his 25 years of government service, he served as chief officer and senior leader in many departments within the DOJ and DOD. A recipient of many decorations and honors, he was a mentor to many employees. He was a participant in seminar studies at University of Michigan and Harvard University. He was a member of the board of Miami University’s District of Columbia Alumnae Association.

He, his sister and stepmother co-founded the Bruce Gregory Temple Scholarship for Brown County High School graduates. He loved music and learned how to play the saxophone, flute, piano and guitar. Throughout his entire life, however, he truly embraced the acoustic and electric guitar. He enjoyed fishing and reading – believing learning and education is a lifelong process. Cal was a beloved and loving father, a wonderful husband and someone who embodied humility, steadfastness, service and commitment.

He is survived by his wife, daughter, son, sister, mother, stepfather, stepmother, in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were Aug. 13 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Alexandria.
