Special exhibit by Hoosier masters at art guild

This month, the Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St., is hosting “Tri Kappa Comes Home,” an exhibit of guild artist members’ paintings from the Tri Kappa fine art collection. Artists whose work is in the display include C. Curry Bohm, Harry Davis. L.O. Griffith, Ruth K. Hibbs, Georges LaChance, Gordon Mess, Frederick Rigley and others.

Tri Kappa began collecting the works in 1932 and displayed them each year at the guild until the growing collection exceeded the space available, said guild Executive Director Andra Walters. In 1973, the paintings were moved to a library at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute.

The exhibit will hang through Sunday, Feb. 24 and will be open during guild winter hours, which are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays, or by appointment.

Make pocket-sized art at Cordry-Sweetwater library

CORDRY-SWEETWATER — An art program for teens and adults will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on two Sundays, Feb. 10 and 16, at the Cordry-Sweetwater branch of the Brown County Public Library.

Participants will use matchboxes and provided materials to make dioramas, shadow boxes, small gifts and other projects during this free program. Register at the branch library or call 317-933-9229 to sign up.

Applications for fall studio tour due by Feb. 15

The Back Roads of Brown County Studio Tour is accepting artists’ applications for the October tour. The application deadline is Friday, Feb. 15.

Local artist will teach fluid art at Hobby Lobby

BLOOMINGTONAnabel Hopkins will instruct a class in the technique of fluid acrylic pouring from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at Hobby Lobby on College Mall Road. The cost is $40 per person.

This technique creates colorful art without the use of a brush. All materials will be included to create two paintings on canvas and one on ceramic tile. Class is limited to eight students. The snow date is Feb. 23.

Quilting workshop, trunk show set at library

Lu Brunnemer and Connie Pockovich will offer a quilting workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Brown County Public Library. The workshop/trunk show is free and open to teens and adults.

The ladies will answer quilting questions, discuss how to begin, give project help and talk about methods such as hand- versus machine-quilting.

Visit Young Artist Show at art guild now

The Brown County Art Guild is hosting a Young Artist Show through Saturday, Feb. 23, featuring work by local and regional artists younger than 18. An awards ceremony and reception will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 23; awards will be presented at 3 p.m. at the guild, 48 S. Van Buren St.

Guild artist member Dixie Ferrer will judge the competition. Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show ($150), first place ($125), second place ($100), third place ($75), Honorable Mention ($50) and People’s Choice.

The exhibit can be viewed between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and between noon and 4 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free.

Submit work to Hoosier Women Artists contest

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana women are invited to enter the 2019 Hoosier Women Artists contest hosted by Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and Treasurer Kelly Mitchell.

Visual art projects such as drawing, painting and photography are welcomed. Work is judged by a panel that includes Crouch, Mitchell and peer artists coordinated by the Indiana Arts Commission.

Winners will have their artwork displayed in Mitchell’s and Crouch’s offices at the Statehouse for one year to be enjoyed by thousands of school groups, visitors and staff who explore the building. Additionally, pieces of art will be selected by First Lady Janet Holcomb, Secretary of State Connie Lawson, Auditor Tera Klutz, Chief Justice Loretta Rush and Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick to display in their offices.

One entry per artist will be considered. The maximum weight is 60 pounds, and the piece must be installation ready, including frame and hanging wires. For other requirements, visit the application website.

A reception will take place Wednesday, March 27 at the Statehouse to honor selected artists.

Valentine’s paint party planned at golf retreat

A “Paint n Party” for couples led by artist Dee Manzenberger will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at Salt Creek Golf Retreat. The theme is “Made a Wish.”

Pre-registration of $65 per couple is recommended. A full bar and menu will be available.

Photo contest open for historic preservation subjects

The Indiana Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology is accepting photos for its annual Historic Preservation Month photo contest. It’s looking for photos of something that has been preserved, is in the process of being preserved, or needs to be preserved.

The subject in the photo must be in Indiana and at least 50 years old. It must show something that was designed and/or built. The contest deadline is April 5.

B3 Gallery, in downtown Nashville at 61 W. Main St., is expanding. The owners are seeking artists to display 2-D and 3-D work.

Artists would have a co-op type arrangement but with no work requirements.

Shared art studio space available in town

B3 Gallery has created a space for artists and the community to come together.

S3, the Nashville “shared studio and maker space” is on the second floor of the gallery at 61 W. Main St. It is a meeting area for artists, craftspeople, inventors, clubs, seminars, classes or individuals.

S3 can provide painting and drawing easels, an alternative process darkroom, macro photography equipment, a digital projector, a glass annealing kiln and burnout kiln, PCB etching equipment and tanks, leaded glass tools, metal forming and casting tools, electronics and robotics fabrication tools, various computer numerical control tools, a scroll saw, band saw, drill press, centrifuge, bench grinder/polisher, laser cutter/engraver, air compressor, vacuum pumps and chemistry vent hood.

The organizers seek “fun, energetic, enthusiastic and creative people to bring life to the space.”

Donations of under-utilized equipment or specialty tools also are being accepted.

Popular Victorian tea planned in April

The Brown County Art Gallery will serve its annual Victorian tea Sunday, April 14.

Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. for shopping with vendors. Tea will be served at 2 p.m., followed by the program. The fundraiser for the gallery foundation will include favors, a raffle and door prizes.
